Code Complete 2
McConnell's first edition of Code Complete was one of the original read-in-parts software narratives books for me back in the late '90s. Updated to second edition in 2004, Code Complete focuses not just on coding, but on philosophy, quality, and best practices related to software engineering.
Be sure to read (and re-read) through the Code Improvements and Software Craftsmanship sections.
The Pragmatic Programmer: from journeyman to master
The Pragmatic Programmer is one of the few books I ready every single year. It serves as a refresher for iterating on my pragmatic mentality--which is a must for an entrepreneur developer. There's plenty of humor spread throughout the book and it's a very quick read.
I'd recommend paying special attention to the Pragmatic Paranoia and While You Are Coding sections, but everything is great in this one!
