Ain’t no one got time for dat!

As far as operating systems go, I really dig Windows 8. The only thing is this; the most terrifying screen ever known to man:

This will be the fastest 10-15 minutes of your LIFE. What feels like only moments later (and very likely before you’ve had time to save), suddenly, everything starts to reboot. It doesn’t care if you’re in the middle of a webinar, demo, watching the latest series on Netflix, or trying to nail that last bit of code.

There’s no stopping it.

You WILL be in the middle of something important and WON’T have saved… when the system suddenly shuts down.

Seriously, the new BSODs have little :( faces, this screen needs an evil ]=) face.

Thankfully, a quick group policy update to the rescue.

  1. Open gpedit (start menu, then start typing: gpedit.msc) Navigate 2. Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update
  2. Double-click (Edit) No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installation.
  3. Set this policy to Enabled and rejoice.
